Now I’m in Rhode Island. Keno and Newport: things I didn’t know I missed until I saw them again. It’s a lovely and strange feeling; getting homesick while being home, but it makes me pay attention to all the little things that I loved about this state for so long.

Then I went to Brooklyn where I was greeted by and all-American festival that magnified my love for this country but more for my friends.
Greenpoint quickly became my new favorite neighborhood. Next time I’m ordering the Polish Sampler Platter!
In Atlanta I finally visited the Martin Luther King Jr. State Park. He and Coretta are entombed there. Ebenezer Baptist Church and MLK’s birthplace are also included as a part of the park. It was really, really lovely. Since I was voted “Class Peacemaker” in the fifth grade, I’ve always felt that he and I had a connection. All jokes aside, it was a very thorough and beautiful tour of Martin and Coretta’s remarkable lives and work.

Here it is!
My brother, sister-in-law, and I decided to surprise my parents for Christmas this year. For months we told them that I would arrive in America on December 30th. When in truth I was set to arrive Christmas Eve. The original plan was shaken up a bit when my flight was delayed by 10 (yes, 10) hours. I was also rerouted and given an additional leg to fly. Oh and my luggage missed one of my connections. It’s wasn’t the best of flights and travel time totaled over 30 hours. But it was completely worth it. I updated Gid regularly and Theresa kept her camera on her arm waiting to hear my (rental) car pull up. Her timing was perfect and she nailed the video.
You can see my mom turn her head as she hears the back door open. Then in the distance you might be able to hear me singing “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” as I run through the kitchen. Then there is alot of screaming (mostly by me). My grandmother, Mama Ann, just stared at me in disbelief. Also, my family in Nashville happened to be on skype so they got to experience the celebration.
It was a super Christmas Day!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
My super fantastic chingoo came to Maple Bear today to hang with my students and watch our Christmas show. Then she made an adorable mashup of all the classes. My little Green Bears are the ones singing Jingle Bell Rock and Sleigh Ride. I am one proud Mamma Bear.

Christmas tree…or something like it.
This is one of my prized possessions. It was given to me from a parent I ran into on my way to a movie. So I sat watching Harry Potter while this 3 foot tall “tree” accompanied me. Once I got it home I realized it’s value (it lights up!!) and now can’t live without it. I’ll probably be shipping it back to America when I’m done in Korea. For real.
